Quite wondrous stuff over at The Morning News - an interview and featurette around Danny Gregory's collection of small drawings of big city. Beautiful sketches of the quotidian details of New York - right up my strasse.
It's closest to the work of the genius Ben Katchor (the watercolours and irregular perspective and construction) and Chris Ware's ACME Novelty Datebook, but with his own style. A lovely touch with architecture, and an eye for detail at a smaller scale too. As for his inspiration:
"I love lots of people who draw New York and other big cities, like Ronald Searle, Art Speigelman, Ben Katchor, Edward Hopper, R.Crumb, David Gentleman, Chris Ware, and Paul Cadmus, among others."
Such is the quality that his name could soon be added to that luminous list.
